Are You Going to Heaven or Hell?

The variety of cultures in the world offers an assortment of answers to the question, “Where do you go when you die?”

There is only one correct answer & if you’re wrong, the consequences are dire. 🚨🚧

As Bible believing Jesus followers, we believe that there is only one true God, God, Jesus & The Holy Spirit (the Holy Trinity). He was, He is & He is to come:

““I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.””
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Since we believe there is only one true God, that means the answer is clear: the Bible is God’s word to His people & what the Bible says is true (2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible tells us that the death of your body is not the end because of Jesus’s sacrifice (John 3:16)!

There is eternity to live with the God who loves you like no one else can because He knows everything there is to know about you & still loves you unconditionally. ♥️

Read how much He cares for you & how thoughtfully He created you:

“Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord. You have encircled me; you have placed your hand on me. This wondrous knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty; I am unable to reach it. Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I fly on the wings of the dawn and settle down on the western horizon, even there your hand will lead me; your right hand will hold on to me. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me, and the light around me will be night”  — even the darkness is not dark to you. The night shines like the day; darkness and light are alike to you. For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began.”

Generally speaking this is good news, but if you aren’t sure where you’re going, it can be an anxiety producing. 😳

So where will you go when your body dies?

You’re in luck; this isn’t a hard question to answer. God gives us a clear answer to this question in the Bible. 🙋‍♀️ 📖

Without Jesus, hell is where you go when you die. You might think you are a perfectly nice person, so how can you go to hell just because you don’t follow Jesus? Read on ⬇️

If you know Jesus, if you accepted His sacrifice & made the decision to follow Him, His sacrifice for your sins saved you. ✝️

This puts your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life, which means you will go to Heaven at the end of your life on earth. 📖 🐑

“Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy. If you appeal to the Father who judges impartially according to each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in reverence during your time living as strangers. For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was revealed in these last times for you. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”

The only way to be saved is through the blood of Jesus. It is impossible to be saved by anything that we could do on our own.

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift —  not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.”

You might think you’re a good person, but I have news: the human standard of goodness is vastly different from God’s. Check out Living Water’s Are You A Good Person Test to dive deeper on this.

“We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death. Everyone who hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has this world’s goods and sees a fellow believer in need but withholds compassion from him — how does God’s love reside in him? Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.”

Now, Jesus’s sacrifice & God’s grace are not a free pass to sin. Even though works cannot save us, we have to try our best everyday. Only God is perfect; we can never be. But we should make choices to honor God & do what is right everyday.

Do you think you’re safe because you aren’t committing a sin that is widely frowned upon such homosexuality? That’s not how that works. Even if the only thing you think you’ve ever done wrong is lie, your ticket is already punched unless you know Jesus:

“But the cowards, faithless, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars  — their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.””
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:8‬ ‭CSB‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/1713/rev.21.8.CSB

When you think of idols you might think of stone statues or a golden calf. But idols are still a major problem in our modern day; in fact, I’d guess it’s the most common sin committed.

To idolize means to put someone or something before God in your heart. God should always be #1. If He isn’t, whatever is before Him is an idol.

“Do not have other gods besides me. Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.”

If you realize you are sinning, or if are aware you are committing a sin & continue to do it without making an effort to turn & repent, I encourage you to read your Bible & go to God for forgiveness. He wants you to come to Him!

So now you understand where you are headed when your curtain is closed. What now?

If you do know Jesus, keep following Him! Read your Bible everyday. Pray & follow God’s plan for your life. Do your best everyday.

We all have a number of days to live; God decided way before we were born that He was going to knit each one of us together & bring us into the world at a certain time. At the end of our lives, we will come before Him & be sorted out.

“He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while people were sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and left. When the plants sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. The landowner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’ “‘An enemy did this,’ he told them. “‘So, do you want us to go and pull them up? ’ the servants asked him. “‘No,’ he said. ‘When you pull up the weeds, you might also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I’ll tell the reapers: Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to burn them, but collect the wheat in my barn.’””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:24-30‬ ‭CSB‬‬

“Then he left the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He replied, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world; and the good seed — these are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom all who cause sin and those guilty of lawlessness. They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Let anyone who has ears listen.”

Know that the rain falls on both the righteous & unrighteous. Following Jesus does not automatically make life easier for you; in fact, you might see sinners do better than you.

Don’t let that discourage you. Keep on & fight the good fight, run the race, because you have the best reward waiting for you:

“Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize. Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown. So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air. Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”

But it’s likely that there are people in your life who are very special to you that may not know Jesus. You may be worried about them & want to help them to know Jesus too.

Check out Ray Comfort & Kirk Cameron on The Way Of The Master & Ray Comfort’s ministry, Living Waters, for tips to reach others. LW posts new videos daily on their YouTube Channel of Ray & others talking to people about Jesus & eternity; these real life conversations are a great way to dive deeper on this important topic.

However, it’s imperative to keep in mind that your role in telling others about Jesus is being a gardener. You scatter the seed & God chooses how to cultivate the seeds you scatter in the hearts of the people who hear them:

“On that day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, while the whole crowd stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying, “Consider the sower who went out to sow. As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly since the soil wasn’t deep. But when the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it. Still other seed fell on good ground and produced fruit: some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times what was sown. Let anyone who has ears listen.””

What about animals? Maybe you have a pet that you love that you hope will be brought to Heaven too.

The Bible does not specifically state that animals go to Heaven, but these verses of scripture give me hope that they do:

“I said to myself, “This happens so that God may test the children of Adam and they may see for themselves that they are like animals.” For the fate of the children of Adam and the fate of animals is the same. As one dies, so dies the other; they all have the same breath. People have no advantage over animals since everything is futile. All are going to the same place; all come from dust, and all return to dust. Who knows if the spirits of the children of Adam go upward and the spirits of animals go downward to the earth? I have seen that there is nothing better than for a person to enjoy his activities because that is his reward. For who can enable him to see what will happen after he dies?”

I leave you with these final thoughts. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, know that:

  • God created you! (Psalm 139:13).
  • He wants a relationship with you! (Matthew 11:28-29; Revelation 3:20).
  • It’s never too late to turn to Him! (Acts 9; Luke 23:32-43).
