Getting exercise & getting the littles out of the house for fresh air is crucial. If you’re looking for stroller friendly trails in or near Prince William County, there are smooth paths waiting for you to burn calories here:
Rollins Ford Park in Nokesville
Opened in October 2023, this park is considered a “destination park”, as in, nice enough to make the drive to if you aren’t local. Amenities include a stroller friendly walking path, a wonderful playground, real bathrooms, dog park, basketball courts, and picnic areas.
There is a nice paved walking path at the park, and there is also extensive sidewalk on the road leading to the park. You could get a killer work out in here!
The playground has rubber ground which is great for littles who are still learning to walk. There is a play area for little kids and bigger kids. There are slides, a variety of climbing structures including wooden tree style and animals including cows and a Cardinal, play houses, balance beams & boards, & swings to enjoy. When you walk up you may be intimidated by the very tall slide in the barn play structure, but rest assured it is only accessible by ladder, which keeps the younger kids out of it.
Catharpin Recreational Park in Catharpin
Likely most known for its soccer & baseball fields, Catharpin recreational park also offers a paved path circling the soccer fields. 1 loop takes about 10 minutes to complete; complete as many laps as you wish to hit your exercise goals.
Entertain Littles in between laps on a high quality playground between the soccer fields. Featuring shades over play areas, the swingset & parent benches, this playground offers a way to continue the fun in different types of weather.
A shaded picnic bench is also located beside the playground for snacks or a picnic lunch.
Port-a-potties are located in the parking lot.
The Washington Old Dominion Trail
Mainly utilized for biking, this trail is great for strollers because it is so smooth.
The entire trail is 45 miles long, so most mamas toting littles will need to plan to turn around at some point.
There are many access points to this trail. Plan your visit by learning more at NOVA Parks.
Gum Spring Library Story Book Walk in Aldie
Gum Spring Library has a pond with a paved path encircling it beside the library, which the librarians took advantage of to help families be active & well read.
Each month, a different story book is featured, with pages posted along the path. 1 loop around the pond, 1 story read!
The path is very short, so if you wanted legit exercise, you’d have to do a few laps, or get creative with stopping to do an exercise at each page.
Bonus! Littles may claim a small prize for completing the story book walk in the children’s section of the library.
The library is located in the main level of a building that contains doctor’s offices so it can be easy to miss. The building & part of the trail is visible from route 50. Located across the street from Stone Spring hospital.

This trail is 3.5 miles long. It’s paved but you will find steep hills, so you are sure to get a good workout here.

The Warrenton Greenway in Warrenton
This trail is super nice & a bit of a hidden gem 💎 even though it’s located in downtown Warrenton, many don’t know about it.
Fun photo ops are available by train art & the red caboose.
Bonus! Fauquier County Library installed displays for Story Book Walks! Follow the trail to read pages of a children’s book. Books are featured monthly.
The nearest parking lot is tiny, so be ready to finding parking nearby. This ends up being another bonus, as you can plan to eat lunch at one of the restaurants downtown, then get tired toddlers back in the car quickly by parking strategically.
Lake Ashby Trail in Warrenton
Enjoy the serenity of a large lake, wooded paths, & walking by houses that look like they belong in a hallmark movie when you walk this path.
There is a play ground nearby at the intersection of Riley Road.
Northern Fauquier Community Park in Marshall
Another hidden gem 💎 this park is beautifully maintained & usually not super busy.
1 full lap of the paved path is about 5,000 steps. Entertain littles by observing wildlife as you walk.
Spend quality time with your littles on 1 of 3 playgrounds after your walk.
There are pavilions available to enjoy a picnic lunch or a snack in the shade on a hot day.
Real bathrooms, not port-a-potties are available here too!
Rocky Branch Loop in Gainesville
Located behind the movie theatre in Gainesville, enjoy a wooded loop around the pond. This loop is small, but it connects to other paths, which when combined offers a great work out.
A playground is nearby the loop, but appears to be part of the private amenities for residents of the neighborhood behind the trail.
In the summer, bring swimsuits to enjoy playing in the fountains across from Firebirds.
Signal Hill Loop in Manassas
This paved trail is 2.6 miles long. The trail has grass between it & the forest brush, so there is room to pass when needed for most of the trail’s distance.
Helwig Fitness Loop in Manassas
This 1 mile trail is a combination of paved & gravel surfaces which most strollers are able to tackle without issue.
Neabasco Creek Boardwalk in Woodbridge
This boardwalk is great to walk on – it offers a beautiful view & lots of wildlife to observe.
Littles will enjoy playing on playgrounds located beside the parking lot.
There are 2 access points but 1 is not ideal. If your GPS takes you to a baseball field, you’ll want to reroute. The better access point is about 5 minutes from there.
Prince William Forest Park: Pine Grove Forest Trail or Piedmont Forest Loop in Triangle
Craving a walk in the woods but want to be sure your stroller can get there? Go here. These trails have both paved & partially paved surfaces suitable for stroller access.
Please be advised that Prince William Forest Park charges an entry fee.
Powell’s Creek Pond Loop in Dumfries
This trail is less than a mile long but paved.
If you’re getting the hang of getting your sheep together & getting out the door with a new baby, going here for a walk would be a good practice run outing!
The Pond at Fair Lakes
Near Whole Foods & Kohls, there is a large pond with a fountain. A paved path goes around this pond & connects to sidewalks that when combined offer an excellent workout, taking you on a long walk all through the Fair Lakes shopping center area.
Littles will enjoy seeing large koi fish & snapping turtles in this pond! Be sure to keep littles away from the water’s edge, as snapping turtles have long necks & a VERY powerful bite.
