Farm Museum Biblical Scavenger Hunt

By Lindsay

As Christian parents, we are always looking for ways to teach our son about Jesus and give him interesting entertainment.

Armed with our Bible and being familiar with the exhibits of a Northern Virginia museum, The Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling, we came up with a fun Biblically based scavenger hunt for him to participate in.

This scavenger hunt was designed to give kids practical ways to memorize scripture as well as creative play prompts to have wholesome fun.

We hope your family enjoys this scavenger hunt as well!

🍎 1. General Store

The fruit of the spirit is good behavior that we extend to others because of God’s work in our hearts.

What fruit of the spirit are you good at showing others? Which ones do you need to work on?

Find your favorite fruit to eat in the general store or the garden & think about ways to show the fruit of the spirit the next time you eat it.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.”

Galatians 5:22-23 CSB

🍞 2. General Store

Find the food item from this verse of scripture in the general store (or the Grandma’s kitchen exhibit):

“Give us today our daily bread.”

Matthew 6:11 CSB

🐴 3. Stables

No matter how much we prepare, if we succeed, it is not solely because of our efforts; it is because of God’s will or His plans to bless us. Find the animal mentioned in this verse:

“A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory comes from the Lord.”

Proverbs 21:31 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/pro.21.31.CSB

🐄 4. Dairy Barn

God should be #1 in our hearts & minds. Idolatry is when we put something or someone else before God. Find the animal that the Israelites made into an idol.

“He took the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into an image of a calf. Then they said, “Israel, these are your gods, who brought you up from the land of Egypt!””

Exodus 32:4 CSB

🥛 🐄 5. Dairy Barn

Babies only drink milk for every meal, but as they grow up into children, teenagers then adults, they can eat and drink other things. Some parts of the Bible might seem hard to understand right now, but as you grow up, you will learn more about God.

Find the animal that makes milk & try your hand at milking the cow!

“Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature — for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.”

Hebrews 5:13-14 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/heb.5.13-14.CSB

God has plans for all of us. As you milk the cow, think about this Bible verse, which tells us that God plans to bless His people:

“He led us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.”

Deuteronomy 26:9 CSB

🐓 🥚🍳 6. Dairy Barn

If you want a delicious pie 🥧 from Grandma’s kitchen, you’ll need to collect eggs 🥚 to bake with!

“Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches.”

🫶🏻💗 7. Grandma’s Kitchen & General Store

Jesus is the King of all Kings! Even though there is no one higher than Him, He came to earth with a servant’s heart.

Serve others today as you play, and think of ways to do that in life after you leave the museum too.

Find ways to serve your friends at the museum such as:

  • Be the general store manager, ensuring the store runs smoothly so that your customers have a good experience shopping there & want to return.
  • Be the cashier who checks out a customer’s order.
  • Stock the shelves of the general store so that your customers may find what they need.
  • Sweep the floor of the store to keep it neat for your customers
  • Be the mail person putting letters into mailboxes & assisting customers who want to send out mail.
  • Prepare a meal in the kitchen.
  • Set the table in the kitchen.
  • Wash the dishes in the kitchen after you have prepared the meal.
  • Prepare a sweet snack for the teacher in the schoolhouse.
  • Take turns serving & being served.

“But it is not so among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you will be a slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””

Mark 10:43-45 CSB

🍽️ 👩‍🍳 8. Grandma’s Kitchen

When Jesus visited Mary & Martha, Martha was too worried about household tasks to focus on Jesus. As you work on your daily responsibilities such as schoolwork & chores, don’t lose focus on Jesus! Always make time for Him!

Pretend that you are preparing to welcome Jesus into your home. Prepare a meal & set the table in the Grandma’s kitchen exhibit for Jesus to come to dinner with you & your friends!

“While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.”

Luke 10:38 CSB

🐂 9. Wooden Plow

Before there were tractors 🚜 farmers had to use big strong animals like cows, horses or donkeys to help them do farm work. Find the wooden plow that the livestock had to pull before tractors 🚜 were invented.

Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed. That can feel like pulling a big heavy plow! Did you know that God wants us to bring our burdens to Him so that He can help us?

““Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””

Matthew 11:28-30 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/mat.11.28-30.CSB

✏️ 10. School House

Jesus’s sacrifice wipes away all of our sins! Can you find something in the school house that wipes chalk off the chalk board?

““Come, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are crimson red, they will be like wool.”

Isaiah 1:18 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/isa.1.18.CSB

🍯 🐝 11. Bee Keeping Exhibit

What animal makes honey? Can you find the exhibit that shows this animal’s home & information about them?

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb: sweet to the taste and health to the body.”

Proverbs 16:24 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/pro.16.24.CSB

The next time you see a 🐝 remember to use kind words when talking to others.

🛡️ 12. Arrowhead Exhibit

Find the exhibit featuring Indian arrow heads. Talk about how the armor of God protects us & how powerful the word of God is!

“Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit  — which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.”

Ephesians 6:10-18 CSB

https://bible.com/bible/1713/eph.6.10-18.CSB

“For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
