How Should Christians Handle Halloween?

By Lindsay

When I was a lukewarm Christian I celebrated Halloween.

When God worked in my heart & set it on fire, I felt that I should have nothing to do with Halloween because it was a celebration of darkness.

A few years later, I’ve come to the conclusion that we actually should participate, but in a certain way.

Why should Christians participate in Halloween?

Ray Comfort of Living Waters is who changed my mind on this. He points out that you have people coming to your door to trick or treat, which is an opportunity to evangelize! We can’t let this opportunity go!

How should Christians participate in Halloween?

Everyone will feel led a certain direction on this; trust that the Holy Spirit will guide you. Here is how my family participates:

We enjoy fall fun activities & avoid anything dark.

We put out a few fall decorations like pumpkins & some orange lights to help trick or treaters know we have treats for them. We do not put out any decorations that glorify anything dark.

I assembled little snack size ziplock baggies of goodies including:

The Halloween gospel tract box from Living Waters contains a few kid friendly Halloween themed tracts. As I assembled the bags, I added one of each of the tracts from the Halloween box, plus two small Halloween toys.

The bonus to these little goodie bags is I can save left overs for next year & I didn’t have to buy candy to tempt myself with!
