Lessons In Momming: All Diapers Are Not Created Equal

By Lindsay

My family usually uses pampers diapers. Some kind neighbors & friends gave my family boxes of Huggies & Honest diapers that their babies had out grown, so of course we used the free diapers & now I’m extra thankful I did!

I always assumed all diapers were relatively similar so I never tried other brands. I assumed my babies having blow outs in diapers was just going to be an occurrence because they’re babies & that happens. Sometimes there’s just so much I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect any diaper to contain it, but other times, it seemed like it should have, but again, they’re babies & that happens.

Pampers

I had been a dedicated pampers customer for my first baby & began to purchase them again for my second baby.

However, both my first & second born regularly had blow outs wearing these diapers.

Honest

The honest diapers were nice because they didn’t have that diaper odor that most do, & they had very cute prints. Unfortunately, they did not contain blow outs.

Huggies

When wearing her gifted Huggies, I went to change my daughter’s diaper, expecting a blow out, which was a regular occurrence in pampers for her (& my son when he was a baby). When I unzipped her outfit, I was amazed to discover that the Huggies diaper contained what was normally an explosion in her pampers diapers!

It seemed too good to be true; was this a lucky one time event, or did some diapers actually work better?

As we went through the boxes of gifted Huggies, I discovered it was not a one time event. They are highly superior diapers!

What I would do differently with a new baby.

With my first & second babies, I stocked up on pampers when sales & promotions were available. But after learning that Huggies contains waste better, my advice to new parents is to buy small packages of several brands to try out on your newborn before stocking up on one brand. After buying diapers for approximately 3 years, I can attest to the fact that the diaper companies & stores have the same sales regularly.

After talking to other moms, I’ve heard that pampers tends to fit slimmer built babies best & that Huggies tends to better fit babies with chubby thighs, which you can’t know until your baby is born.

If you choose to stock up on one brand but find your baby having blow outs often, consider trying other brands.
